Me and my friend were carrying equipment back to the headquarter, then I suddenly felt pain all over the body, we did not hear anything… It was late in the evening. I don’t really remember so much of the event itself, but I landed a couple of meters from the impact. It was a grenade explosion. I took most of the damage, my friend who walked with me only hurt one of his fingers.

I´ve stopped counting how many parts of metallic shreds they took out of me, now I only have one piece left in the knee – I´m going to surgery in two days. It could have been worse, I had a piece really close to one of my main arteries, if the shreds gone deeper I would not have survived.

Ten years ago I worked as a prison guard and when you work at the prison you get “double years”, it means that when I´m finished in the army I can retire straight away. I now have four years left in the army. I am frightened of that time, but when you´re there, at the front line, your feelings get numb.

I really miss my son and my family, it was a long time ago I saw them. When I´ll see them I´ll be happy.

What I´m really proud of is when I helped one of my wounded friends getting out of the warzone by drawing enemy fire towards me and my shooting group instead of the group with my wounded friend. We got him to the hospital.

Since I joined the army, life have changed – Appreciate life, you only have one.
